Driven by his love for the Argentinean tango Arjan Sikking has built up over the years an extensive collection of Argentinean tango music. When in charge of the music in the dance salons he draws upon his wide, personal experience of his yearly visits to Buenos Aires, cradle of the tango, where he frequents the milonga's every night.
As DJ he got the name el Irresistible, the name of a tango from the early period.

Arjan has given a number of times a lecture on the early period of the tango, e.g. at the 'Instituut voor de Tropen' (in connection with a series of tango concerts). The lecture lasts 50 minutes, of which half is composed of (unique) images and music.
In a bird's-eye view the lecture deals with the origin and the early period of the tango. The three main items treated into more depth are: the first tango music forms and the development towards the sextets of the twenties, the development of tango lyrics, and finally the tango dance whereby is shown and told how the dance changed from the early period, around 1900, towards the salon style of the eighties.

In July 2007, Arjan has given a lecture of 90 minutes in coöperation with the Sexteto Canyengue in the Concertgebouw during the three days of Carel Kraayenhof. The part of the music, this time, went up to the tango nuevo of Astor Piazzolla.

A video beamer supports the lecture with image and sound.
